Three popular and non poisonous vegetabels-potatoes, tomatoes and eggplants-are in the same family as the poisonous deadly nightshade. Thre are about 2600 species of nightshade plants
I googled an image.
I'm thankful for a hubby that loves me, 4 healthy children, a warmplace to sleep and enough food for our meals... God bless America!
i love them all too.
2600? That's a alot.
Thanks for the information.
I have never heard of nightshade before.
Deadly nightshade (belladonna) is toxic in most cases, but is also used in medicine in small doses. Here's a link: http://www.chem.ox.ac.uk/mom/solanine/deadlynightshade.html
The leaves and stems of the tomato, potato and eggplant are toxic, but the fruit does not have the toxic substance (solanine) found in those parts.
We watched a documentary about pizza & way back in the day, tomatoes were thought to be poisonous.
Quoting 2and2onway:Interesting info:)
