06/01 I don't have a picture from today but I have had to start over again. It's frusterating, to say the least. We had a death in the family & had to pack & go out of state very quickly. I was overwhelmed & couldn't think straight on packing my natural supplies, plus we didn't know how long our trip would last so I brought shampoo. I washed my hair once on the trip & figured if I did a good saturating of conditioner that it would help with not overproducing oils. I will say that my hair was incredibly silky & I was able to go for 3 days before needing to do anything to it. I got home last night & in today's shower I went back to my bs/acv routine. My hair felt greasy in the shower & I will admit that it looked pretty bad from going 3 days after a shampoo. Once I dried it, it's as soft as it was before, so I don't think that it set me back too far.
I also made a new curl spray. I had read alot about how cucumbers were supposed to be so good for your hair & am also growing them. I made a batch of pickles on Sunday & had one cucumber that wouldn't fit in my jar. So I made my sea salt spray (2 TBS sea salt, 1 cup hot water)& peeled & sliced the cucumber & let it soak in the solution for a few days. My hair is super soft, my curls are soft & holding together better than the original spray. It has the faintest scent of cucumber. We are going out to dinner tonight, so I'll try to get a picture then if I remember.
So this weekend did not go well at all. It was almost comical tho. On Saturday I did a rosemary & olive oil treatment to deep condition my hair. Well after trying to wash it out multiple times & over a 2 day period, I found out that if you are no 'poo that olive oil is nearly impossible to get out of your hair. The lightbulb finally went off in my head that the people recommending that oil treatment also use shampoo bars. So I felt like a big greasy idiot. I suffered thru a dinner party at our house looking like I had dunked my head in a vat of oil. My dh was begging me to shampoo it out. I tried every natural thing I could think of. I even used my organic facewash but it wouldn't cut the oil. So I finally bit the bullet & used my clarifying shampoo. My hair looked awesome without the oil in it. I was a little let down that I used shampoo but figured once in 9 days was still pretty good.
Then, disaster struck.
My car was due for an oil change & we were working on that. Everything was going good until it was time to take the filter off. My dh couldn't get his arm up to it, so I was under the car, wiggling in to place to reach the filter when the unthinkable happened. My ponytail was dangling dangerously close to the pan of drained oil & I turned my head to get a better look at the filter & completely dunked my hair in the hot nasty oil. I was drenched! So, off to the shower again. It took 3 shampoos of the heavy duty stuff (I almost grabbed my dish soap) to get the suds coming out clean.
My dh was teasing me that I got 2 hot oil treatments over the weekend.
So now, I'm back to square one. I did water only today. I guess this counts as day 1 & not day 10.
Since I'm on a PC right now, I'm pulling my pics from replies & posting them here so you don't have to skip around on the pages to see the progress.
I figured I'd start a no 'poo post since it came up a few times in the hippie post also. I started no 'poo over the weekend. This pic is my hair before when i was using shampoo & conditioned. I'm mobile so my pics of the journey will be in replies. My hair is thin & falls flat to my head.
The basic thought process behind no 'poo is that shampooing strips your hair of the natural oils causing it to overproduce. I was really having oil issues & had lost my natural curl.
I'm tying different things to find what works best with my hair. First, I weaned myself off of daily shampoos to help the transition period. I did two days of washing with baking soda & an apple cider vinegar rinse. Today I rinsed with just water. I experimented with a sea salt spray for my curls tonight, so if I like the results tomorrow I'll post that info.
Day 4: Added sea salt spray (I was sick so ignore the lack of makeup lol)
