Something to think about...

Saw this in another group... ~
What is something that you were allowed to do as a child, but would never allow your own children to do! For me, it would be this... I was allowed to play outside all day (young teen) and didn't have to be in until curfew or unless I was hungry. I cannot even imagine not seeing or talking to my daughters (or sons, lol) all day. I will want to know where they are, who they are with and what they are doing. Not saying my parents didn't do a great job, but it's not my parenting style.

Staying home alone while mom worked. My son can stay home but not my girls, not even if my son is there. I always have to find a sitter for the girls

I remember also being outside all day, & walking/riding our bikes all over town...
The big thing I did that I would NEVER let my kids do- going door to door selling things for school fundraisers. I know the schools don't want the kids do that & advise against it now, but even if they thought it was ok I wouldn't let my kids do it...

I started staying home alone at age 9. That seems too young to me.

I never did it (my mom always took my sheet to work with her, lol), but I had friends who went door to door selling things for school... I agree, not a good idea at all these days.

LoL... I already have a 15 year old who follows our rules to the letter as well as a 10 year old who has no problem with the rules of our family. Our children understand our family dynamics. They understand and respect our rules. It works if the parents instill it from an early age.
