is renting a room a crazy idea when you have a one year old?
I think I may advertise renting one bedroom at home.but I am not sure if anyone would take it considering I have a one yera old.
is this common?

This. If I had a house with a MIL unit separate from the house, I would consider renting it out. (we looked at a few houses for sale that had them that's why I say that) although more than likely I'd use it as a guest quarters since my house is the sacrificial lamb at Thanksgiving.
