Any Gerbil Owners?

I might soon be the owner of one or two gerbils.

I have a friend who thought she had two boys and now she has babies. She reports that they are super easy to take care of. But of course she has a motivation to want me to believe that!

She also claims she's researched and knows how to tell girls from boys. She's assuring me she can get me two girls. I don't want to end up trying to find home for a litter of accidental gerbils. 

Does anyone own one? Are they really easy to care for?

How you tell if they are boys or girls?

 remember watching 2 of them one time. A family we knew went out of town.. they were hyper, running arround and you couldnt do anything with them at all
