Smarter Health: Breakfast Smoothies For Everyone!

My husband just bought a blender. He also bought an indoor grill and a steamer...obviously on a new cooking kick, no? But back to the blender. He wants to make smoothies, which is a great idea, especially for the morning. Easy, simple breakfast choice that gets us away from the frozen waffles and into some fresh fruit and yogurt yummies.

Antioxidant Smoothie (From Whole Living)

2 cups mixed frozen berries (9 ounces)
1 cup unsweetened pomegranate juice
1 cup water

Combine all ingredients
 in a blender and mix
 until smooth.

Peanut Butter and Banana Smoothie (From Prevention)

1 ½ cup fat-free milk
½ cup fat-free plain yogurt
2 Tbsp creamy natural unsalted peanut butter
¼ very ripe banana
1 Tbsp honey
4 ice cubes

Combine the milk, yogurt, peanut butter, banana, honey, and ice cubes in a blender. Process until smooth. Pour into a tall glass and serve. 

Orange Creamsicle Smoothies (From KidsCooking)

1 11 oz. can mandarin oranges in juice

1/2 cup frozen pineapple chunks

1/2 cup vanilla yogurt or vanilla soy yogurt

1 Tbsp. honey

1 cup vanilla soy milk

1/2 cup ice

Open can of oranges and drain. Place in a zip-top plastic bag and freeze several hours. Place the frozen oranges and pineapple chunks in the bottom of a blender, Vita Mix, or food processor. Add the remaining ingredients in the order listed. Puree until the mixture reaches the texture of a milkshake. Add more ice, if desired, until an icy consistency is achieved.

Strawberry Oatmeal Breakfast Smoothie (From AllRecipes) 

1 cup soy milk

1/2 cup rolled oats

1 banana, broken into chunks

14 frozen strawberries

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 teaspoons white sugar

In a blender, combine soy milk, oats, banana and strawberries. Add vanilla and sugar if desired. Blend until smooth. Pour into glasses and serve.

Pb banana smoothie is one of my favorites! I also really like strawberry banana or blueberry banana.

I've never thought to do a creamsicle one!  I've got to try that.

I wish I could have smoothies for breakfast, but I don't want to wake some people that live here up. They would be so grumpy if I ran the blender that early in the morning. LOL
