Back To School Checklist: Everything They Need For Less

Posted by   + Show Post

Don't forget a thing! This comprehensive back-to-school checklist will help make sure all your i's are dotted and t's crossed before your kids’ first day back.  A lot of schools will have their own checklists specific to certain classes or teacher’s preference, but it’s always a good idea to get a jumpstart on the basics.
Speaking of basics, it’s probably no surprise to any of us that technology is playing an increasingly fundamental role in our children’s education.  While this is inevitable, it can also mean big $$ when back-to-school shopping.  Here are some extra tips to make sure you’re getting the most out of your budget and not spending any more than you have to:

  • Take Inventory:  Unless your kids are entering school for the first time, there’s a good chance that you have at least some still-usable supplies that you can recycle from last year – this will allow you to prioritize and identify what supplies you really need.
  • Shop Savvy:  As mentioned above, technology is becoming standard for education and so are the supplies that accompany them (laptops, computers, storage and memory devices, etc..)  Avoid overpriced specialty stores and shop Kmart for the affordable technology and electronic essentials you need for a fraction of the price.
  • Make a List and Stick To It:  It’s easy to spin out of control when confronted with all the back to school merchandise out there.  Follow the 2 tips above, then make a list before you leave the house to help you stay organized with your shopping and efficient with your spend.

For your convenience, check out Kmart’s helpful back-to-school checklist that you can print out as a resource when shopping for all of your back-to-school needs.  Click the link below to access a printable version of this checklist!

We've done our shopping. We stick to the school list and I go through DD's clothes to see what she needs. We buy a few fun extras for her.

I'd be irritated at the school if they start adding technology they get grants to get their own stuff

I feel prepared. My DD didn't even need anything. I got her new clothes, shoes, and a back pack, but no long list of supplies :) Her teacher will probably have a wish list, which I will gladly purchase items off of.

Can someone explain why a bike is on a list?! We don't live close enough for the kids to ever bike to school. I just found that a funny item to have!
I got my stepdaughter's list from the school site. Haven't gotten the 6th garder's info yet. Shopping will be done in the next week or so.

DD isn't officially in school yet, but this a great list for the future.  Thanks!
