My kiddo is just starting to read and I am trying to find all the ways I can to show her just how awesome reading is and to get her on the road to love books and reading. Did you know this Saturday, September 8, is Celebrate Literacy Day? Yup, a day to gather and to remind us all how knowing how to read can transform your life. There may be happenings at your local library or bookstore, but there are easy ways to have your own little celebration:
Have a read-in - Everyone in the family gathers, curls up on mom and dad's bed and reads. Bake some yummy cookies, pour some tea or cocoa and settle in for an afternoon of reading.
Host a book drive - This one may last beyond the one day, but organize a books drive. Email folks, family friends, church h members that you will accept books for a certain week in the future to be donated to a hospital or nursing home. Make your signs, get the boxes ready and all of that fun stuff.
Share your favorite books - Have a fun dinner and swap stories of some of your favorite books, maybe make a list of the whole family's favorites. Call the grandparents and aunts and find out their favorites too.
Do you love reading? What will you do on Celebrate Literacy Day?
