My Dad was one of 17 kids also, but he was some where in the middle. I've been trying lately to figure out just how many cousins I have on my Dad side, I'm just not sure.

Yes, I am close with a few Aunts from both sides of the family. And I'm also close with one of DH's Aunts too.
I know what you mean. I stopped count at 30 cousins and there is a lot more that I don't even know.

I'm close with my maternal aunt, who is the only one on that side of the family. Used to be close with my paternal aunt as well, but we have had some bumps in that relationship over the past few years.
not close but we speak occasionally...mostly during holidays
I want so much to go see her again but I can't afford it this year.
