Christmas Fun: DIY Peppermint Candy Cane Playdough

Keep the kids entertained with this fun holiday twist on playdough. They’ll love the gooey mess, while you enjoy the fresh peppermint scent!

Materials Needed:

  • 5 cups water
  • 2 1/2 cups salt
  • 3 Tbls cream of tartar
  • food coloring
  • 10 Tbls vegetable oil
  • 5 cups flour
  • glitter
  • peppermint oil or extract (optional)

Directions:

Make two half batches, one red and one white.

Mix water, salt, cream of tartar, and food coloring. Cook on medium-low heat, stirring regularly until mixture is hot. Add oil. Stir in flour a cup at a time, stirring in between each addition. Mix until playdough pulls away from pan and is no longer sticky (pinch it between your fingers to test). Dump dough on counter, let cool a bit, then knead.

After it cools knead some glitter and peppermint oil into the dough. This is an optional step but adds some fun to the project.
