My daughter is now halfway through kindergarten (report card came today), and she is totally blowing me away with her reading skills!!!! She started the year knowing how to read some sight words and how to read level 1 books that had basically 3-4 words per page. Totally simple. It's now halfway through the year and this kid is reading Junie B. Jones books... like, actual chapter books! I cannot believe her skills and how much she has progressed in a short time.
Here's some video footage from our reading session tonight:
What amazes me is when she reads the line "Hey, Grace"; at first, she thinks Junie B is being snotty to her friend, so she uses a negative, mocking tone... but then she starts to read on and realizes Junie B was trying to give a compliment. She catches that, goes back and rereads the "Hey, Grace!" line in a polite and friendly way!! CRAZY that she was processing the scene that much as she read that she knew her tone was slightly off for the context!
Sorry, I just wanted to shout my pride from the rooftops for a moment. :) I'm so happy to see her doing so well!
