When my husband cleans his ears with a Q-tip, he gags. I don't mean he is grossed out by earwax, I mean he actually somehow triggers his gag reflex... through his ear. I know the ear/nose/throat are connected but I have never heard of anyone else that happens to.

Sometimes. It depends on my sinuses and allergies. If my ear is itchy at all when I'm cleaning them, it will tickle and I'll gag or cough.

My 15-year-old son coughs every time his ears get cleaned.

Sometimes, it can totally happen. Ear drainage can make you cough, if your ears itch you can cough from it.  Weird little system we have going in there.
