Smarter Shopping: The Summer Pantry List

In our abode, we go in waves of food...we'll go on a crock-pot kick for a few weeks, then a soup stretch for a month (as I type this, my husband is making gazpacho...really). We just finished an edamame and brown rice spurt. During these summer months, when we do more salads, fresh veggies and grilling (that's happening now), I find myself cleaning out the pantry of old stuff we aren't using, making room for that stuff we are - like items to have on hand for those last-minute drop-in guests, healthy snack for the kiddo to grab after camp, items for movie night or whipping up a simple dip...you get the idea. So what's on my summer pantry/fridge/freezer list. Here it is:

-- Dried fruit (raisins, apple rings, etc)

-- Tortillas

-- Shredded cheese

-- Pickles

-- Easy fruit (bananas, apples, pears)

-- Ice cream cones

-- Salsa

-- Avocados

-- Baking supplies (honey, vanilla, baking powder/soda)

-- Sprinkles and easy dessert toppings, like icing

-- The ingredients for to make easy and quick cookies/cupcakes

-- The ingredients for two or three pasta salads

-- Healthy chips and pretzels

-- Whole-wheat pasta

-- Whole wheat bread

-- Lite soy sauce and other condiments

-- Salad dressings that can double as marinades

-- Brown rice

-- Marinara sauce

-- Canned beans

-- Microwavable popcorn

I always keep snacks on hand for when we don't want a big meal. We just eat little portions as we get hungry.

This is a great list!  I always buy as many different kinds of fruit in season as well.
