Smarter Style: Cool School Lunch Bags

My little one is entering Kindergarden this fall (OMG!), and for some reason I'm really excited to help her pick out a new lunch box or bag, because the one she has been taking to nursery school and pre-K for 3 years now is totally gross. So I've been spending some time poking around for cool lunch bag ideas, and here are some of the things I found.

These Garnet Hill bags look colorful and roomy without being too large or seeming heavy. And the reviews are all 5 stars, plus the price is great too, at $18 and change: http://www.garnethill.com/garnet-hill-kids-27-lunch-pack/302686. This store also sells smaller, cheaper bags that are super cute too, but may not be large enough for most school-aged kids needs: http://www.garnethill.com/garnet-hill-kids-27-lunch-bag/302687

Kmart has a large selection of lunch bags http://www.kmart.com/search=lunch, some of which are on sale when you buy your kids backpack right now, which also come in a large variety of themes and choices. They even have some kids backpacks like the ones featuring the Transformers or Batman at this link http://www.kmart.com/search=lunch, with detachable lunch kits, and you'll only pay $10 for them both right now.

Soap.com sells the Skip Hop Zoo "lunchie" bag collection for younger kids, and I happen to really love their designs http://www.soap.com/buy?s=lunchie. The only issue is which one to chose when your kid loves all animals pretty much equally...

Now, if you wanted to get really fancy and personalize your kid's lunch bag, that's an option many online stores offer too (and maybe not a bad idea, I'm starting to think, since my girl loses everything at school). Pottery Barn will personalize, for free, a super cute $19 lunch bag, or a fancier, larger one if you chose. (They offer a wide range of fun patterns and sizes, which I like). Check out their choices here: http://www.potterybarnkids.com/shop/backpacks-luggage/shop-all-lunch-bags/?cm_type=gnav

What do you look for, or recommend looking for, in a perfect school lunch bag for kids?

we are using the lands end lunch bag that was bought for her last year for this year as well.  She can update it by putting stickers on it if she wants.   We dont have to replace her backpack either it is in good shape.

I would probably get something affordable since I would be afraid that she will lose it.

We got easylunchbox.com this year. I bought a little bit better stuff this year so hopefully they will last.

We get ours at LLBean right along with the backpacks... It's so nice to live close to the LLBean outlet and to have credit card coupons to use! :)

Some of these ideas are adorable, though.

Allie has a pink sparkly Minniw mouse one this year. She picked it out because it is all of her favorite things

Last year in Pre-K Allie did good and remembered her lunch box all year and then the last day of school she forgot and left at school. Her teacher was really nice and saved it for her and gave it back to her on the first day of Kindergarten this year.
