I am opening a store in a tiny town in the middle of Winter

Hi :)

I have never posted anything here but I read stuff here every day...

We just moved to a tiny town in Colorado with 4 kids. My husband is from Utah and I am from Germany. We will open a little retail store in town at the end of Novermber.

The only store we have here is a Walmart 20 minutes drive away.

I was wondering if anyone has a good idea, what I should offer in the store for the Winter? What things do people start buying as soon as it gets cold?

Thank you for your help.

You really should already have some idea of what type of items you will carry and have some sort of business plan.  The end of November is a bit late to catch much of the Christmas business and you can count on business in January and February to be really slow.  Is this town in the mountains?  What is the winter population?  What else is being sold in the area?

Hi. Welcome! I live in Denver.

Where in Colorado? What kind of delivery access will be available in the winter. If you're in the mountains winter is only really getting going well in November, but Jan. - Mar. can be tricky.

Can you ask some of your neighbors and others from the area what they might like to have in the store?

Have a friend who can craft (knitting or crocheting) & sell those items too!
Hand made soups sounds great! Hot cocoa! Tea!
& yes flash lights, batteries, candles, yes blankets, canned foods.

I don't know what else but good luck.

Also post in other groups, you might get some luck there too.

good luck with your store. i'm no help though, we have mild winters here so we don't buy much different for winter than we do other months.
