I wasn't planning on it but I ended up doing it anyway.

Last night was going to be an uneventful evening. That's what I thought until dh came home with bags full of apples. The owner of an orchard told him he could take what he wants. I ended up spending the evening canning apple pie filling. Thank goodness he helped.

Oh, we have apple trees about a dozen but ours did not do well this year.

We canned 9 quarts. Then we ran out of sugar. Ugh...Hopefully we will get more today or tomorrow.

A lot of people use a pressure cooker. I do it the old fashioned way with boiling water. Depending on what you are canning makes a difference on how long you leave them in the water.

I use a canning pot with jar holder. When our trees use to produce good, I would do apple sauce, apple butter and apple pie filling. Next spring we are replacing our apple trees.

I use it to make apple crisp also. It is soooo good with a chocolate, caramel drizzle.
