Here's a great idea for serving up a very stylish, delicious and fun Valentine's Day meal (or any meal that wants to scream I LOVE YOU!): heart shaped food. You can go freestyle on this, or you can use a mold or cookie cutter to help you out. You could also cut out paper plates into heart shapes and use them to guide your heart shaped creations. However you do it, it's an easy, pretty and fun way to make a plate or meal look stylin' and convey your love in a creative, heart-felt way.
You could technically serve any food in a heart shaped form, from mashed potatoes topped with meat and gravy and veggies to risotto, lasagna or pudding. Think of things your loved ones enjoy most and use them as inspiration. You can pick a color theme like red to make things look extra festive. Think: tomatoes, radishes, beets, blood oranges and ruby red grapefruit, raspberries, strawberries, pomegranate seeds, peppers, cranberries (relish or sauce), red wine reduction, or cherries (fresh or dried work well). You can also do cool color combos, stripes, dots or make a rainbow effect with loads of healthy, delicious and colorful fruits, herbs and veggies. Even just getting a ripe watermelon, slicing it thickly and cutting pieces into hearts works really well, looks beautiful, tastes delicious and takes just a couple of minutes to make! (See photo above.)
For simple, matching table decorations to really make your meal feel extra special, head to the hardware store to stock up on a some red candles. Then help yourself to as many free pretty red paint samples strips you want, (those paper strips),bring them home and cut them into hearts of all sizes to scatter on your table. You can also cut out letters to people's names or just the word LOVE. Either way, you can't go wrong adding some color and love to your home and table any day.
How do you say I LOVE YOU with food?
