When do you think kids are too old?

to exchange valentines in their class?

My daughter is in 5th grade.  To me, this is the last year they get to be a kid.  I was so disappointed when the whole week went by and no info about valentines day was sent home.  She made special valentines for her girl friends and I sent in treats anyways.  So did a couple other parents, but we were just disappointed.

I say never too old but as children grow older, school time becomes more serious. By 5th grade the celebrations tend to be more outside of school rather than a party in class.

my daughter's in 5th grade too & they do valentines, though they have to wait till we go back to school on tuesday since we were out most of this week due to weather.  the teachers sent an email letting parents know how many kids were in the their class.

I understand not having a full on party because they have a lot of material they need to cover, but treats and valentines one last time, can't take more than 15-20 minutes.

I know, they are still in elementary school for goodness sakes.

Seems like a reasonable time to stop.  Then the kids can just do whatever they want.  I'm sure my daughter would still do valentines for her friends in middle school.
