We have a family friend who was recently diagnosed with MS. This lovely lady-has been a part of our family for years.
She's a former teacher at the school my daughter attends, her husband was a teacher where DH and I attended high school. She has dedicated 30 yrs of her life to teaching special needs children and now her daughter's following in her footsteps.
Last year their daughter created a team and they did the local MS walk. My girls got involved by raising money and making a small donation.
This year they're doing the same-both my daughter and stepdaughter are doing fundraising by collecting change-so far they have $25 and DH and I agreed-we'll match whatever they raise.
I think it's fabulous that these kids are taking it upon themselves to help others in need. They are learning a real valuable lesson in helping others and learning about a great cause!
Last year my stepdaughter alone raised $500 for an autism walk her school was doing, and got 3 grades of children to walk and raise money in the name of my daughter who has autism.
It makes me proud in knowing I'm raising these kids to be such giving, loving people!
