Share Your Battles Challenge Day 4: Go Shopping- Indoors!

When kids are stuck in the house for too long, their toys or video games can get boring in a hurry. Today's challenge is to break the boredom and play grocery store with items from your pantry! This activity is fun for kids of all ages and the best part is you already have everything you need in your house!

Set up the items in “aisles,” give the kids baskets or shopping bags (laundry baskets or pillow cases will do!), and let them go shopping! You can set up a checkout counter with a calculator “cash register” and let them check out with bags or pillowcases. This is also a great learning opportunity: new vocabulary words, counting money, buying and selling, etc. So what are you waiting for? Go have some shopping fun!

Have your kids ever played grocery store? When you go to the real grocery store do you bring your kids or leave them with your SO or a sitter?

I think DD might be too old for this.

This activity I've never done and my boys are too old for it now.

We played that many many times when they were growing up, we even did it as an early homeschooling activiity to help them learn to deal with money.

It was rare I went to the store without my kids.

By the time they were in middle school they were planning weekly menus, budgeting, shopping with us, guessing the checkout bill more accurately all the time, comparison shopping and taking turns cooking family dinners for a week at a time.

1 mom liked this

Dd goes grocery shopping with me a lot. She likes to read the list and check things off. When she was younger she liked getting things off the shelf for me.

I think she might be a bit too old to do all that, but she loved playing grocery store when she was younger. These are from various trips to the local childrens museum. The mini grocery store was her favorite part.
