We pulled it off! We planned a really great party for the fifth graders leaving elementary school. We called it The Fifth Grade Fiesta and picked up decorations when all the Cinco de Mayo stuff was out. I made arrangements for a local (and delicious) Latino restaurant to prepare the food for a taco/nacho bar. I got the local ice cream place to donate ice cream and we also had an ice cream bar. Chick Fil A donated drinks. Two local grocery stores donated gift cards that I used to get toppings and bottles water and other extras. We got a DJ to play the music and games. We had enough money to have raffle gifts for every kid. The teachers came up with money to give away a bicycle and a tablet in each classroom. Plus we collected coupons for businesses all over town to put into their goody bags.
It was do much work, especially that last week. But it was such a success.
I'm very proud of how it turned out and I'm very relieved that it's over. I have 2 years before we do it again. I may let someone else be in charge.
