...Happy?

I know it sounds strange, but it is a simple question: Are you happy?

According to 2009 NBER study we are NOT becoming any happier. As a matter of fact, our happiness is decreasing both absolutely and relative to men, despite being more and more equal and having more possibilities than ever before. Believe it or not, our moms were happier back in the 70's. This is the so-called "Paradox of Declining Female Happiness".

What the hell is going on!? What happened to us? Do we really don't know what we actually want? Is feminism a social engineering project that went sour? I can't help but to think we somehow brought this on ourselves...

What are your thoughts on this matter?

I think happiness is based on your contentment.  Are you happy and content in your average home? Or are you always longing for bigger and better?

Agreed that everyone could be happier - I feel the same about myself. But there has to be something specific about women and our (declining) happiness that we are missing and it really bugs me. What is it that we do differently from men? :(

well...

I feel happy, but I am a stay at home mom for now.. so I dont know how I would feel when I start working. I understand the "paradox" here.. in the 60's and 70's women had children and stayed home to care for them and the house, not many of us worked, our work was our family... now we have two jobs.. home and work, we have become overachievers and there is so much expected from us... like you said, we asked for it! lol.

I think it has to do with the worlds expectations of us.  We have to be good housewives, great mothers, work and bring in money.. and look like models... are you kidding me? how can someone be happy having so much pressure? I also believe we as women dont feel happy because we are always comparing to others or wanting more.  We need to stop, breath, look around and really see how wonderful is each and every day we are alive and have someone to share it with :)
