I was taught by my parents that you don't make phone calls before 9 a.m. or after 10 p.m. unless you are calling a business that is open earlier or later.   Lately I've been getting a lot of phone calls at home after 10:30 p.m. (and I go to bed at 10 p.m.) and before 7 a.m.   My employer has gotten business calls at home as early as 5:45 a.m.  What's up with that?

What were you taught about calling times?

don't really recall ever being taught any phone etiquette.  however i don't call anyone before 9 or after 10 unless i know for certain they are up.

Yes I was raised the same.  My firm is on both coasts though so we deal with time zones a lot, and many times people don't think about that before calling.

Unless we are on call we don't normally answer the phone that early or late.
