I am sure most of you know when food in the house get kinda low...so I decided today to make random stew. :)

I put 1 pound of beef broil in the crock pot with

4 cups of water

1 can of diced tomatoes

1/2 lb mushrooms

1/4 cup of celery

4 potatoes

1 med. onion

1 1/2 pk of powdered beef boulion

salt and peper

and a couple dashes of powdered worstershire seasoning.

I am debating on if I should put a can of kidney beans in it too?

I dont usually do stew or pot roast this way so I am hoping it all comes out good.

What are your favorite random stew or meal combinations that turned out great?!

We have done kitchen stew or stone soup a few times in the past.  We would put leftover salsa, corn, whatever protein we had, ramen seasoning for broth  LOL  It was quite interesting.  We unfortunately did not write down the successful "recipe" so we can not recreate it.

That sounds really good!  I would leave out the kidney beans since there's enough protein in the beef...just me, though.

My favorite is kettle beef.  It's served at all the diners around our area, but I never knew how to cook it.  I tried a few methods and different ingredients, but I finally found a way that I love!  DH requests it for every special occasion :)

Here's the recipe I use:

1 beef roast cut up or about 2 lb of stew meat

1 pk. onion soup mix

2 beef boullion cubes

4 cups water

1 dash kitchen bouquet

2 T corn starch

Combine all but corn starch in crockpot. Cook on low for 6 hours.  Remove some broth and add 2 T cold water and the cornstartch.  Mix well, then stir back into crockpot.  After it comes back to a boil and thickens, it's done!  Serve over egg noodles or mashed potatoes.

Sometimes the best things turn out from just using what you have on hand.

When I make refrigerator soup, it usually turns out pretty good, but it's different every time. lol
