crappy food at daycare

Posted by   + Show Post

Okay, so, just in the last couple weeks I've been made aware of some junk food being given to kiddos at my daycare that my skids and my baby go to part time. One of the ladies commented on the youngest skid as " probably still running crazy from the Mountain Dew!".....um, what?!? Then, upon picking them up I inquired as to what they did, which is always answered now with what they ate lol :) "we had pop tarts for snack" was the first thing said....yikes...starch and sugar...mmm
Then last week I noticed a little one, no more than 2 yrs old being offered a fun size candy bar as a snack...?!?!
I'm glad my baby is just on formula but I care about what the skids are consuming too. I can see treats once in awhile but....I dunno...would you leave it alone or would you say something??

***UPDATE:

Not really an "update" update...just wanted to say thanks for all the responses...I think I will say something....kicker part here that I failed to mention previously is that this is a licensed in home daycare so they do have people come in every so often to check things out, AND the gal who runs it with her mother is an old friend/former H.S. girlfriend of my dh....yeah, awkward :) ha :)

anyway, thanks again for all your input! have a great day!

I'd pull my kids out.  I won't allow my kids to eat what's served in school programs because of how unhealthy it is.  This is even worse!

Could you send meals and snacks for the kids? I would try that. I'm assuming they offer junk food as a way to keep the kids calm and happy...😕

the oldest ss told me they walked to a gas station and all the little kids got gummy worms "you know, with the sugar all over them?" ....good Lord!

it's a little more complicated in that this is an in home daycare my skids were going to when I met my dh and it's run by his old high school gf and her mother....he doesn't want to say anything because he doesn't want to cause any issues...ugh

but I'm planning to start up my own daycare hopefully this next Spring :)

meals and snacks are provided as part of what we pay for! pretty ridiculous if a daycare can't come up with a better way to keep kids "calm and happy" ....come on! ha!

I've talked to a couple moms and they've told me they could get fined for offering so much junk to the kids....legally they should be feeding them healthy meals and snacks...once in awhile treats are fine but it seems like an almost daily thing...not how it should be.

definitely speak up not just to the providers but to the other parents.  they may not know all the junk their children are given.  i may even go as far as to call whoever is in charge of inspecting home centers & bring this concern up.  a licensed center has to follow certain guidelines, even dietary & if they don't they can loose their license.

I would say something and if things don't improve I would pull my child out.  My kids aren't used to junk and I have a child with ADHD so, it wouldn't go over well!
