I wrote a journal about why carseat safety matters, but I warn you guys in advance that there is a VERY graphic picture.
WOW
This hit me hard!
"You do NOT get a second chance. EVER. You have ONE CHANCE to save your child's life. You have ONE CHANCE to not break your child's body and change their entire life IF they survive forever."
People think they are invincible...Even I am guilty of this at times. This is why my son is rear-faced and will continue to be ! I hear the excuse "well my child screams rear-faceing" well guess what my son does as well but if we get in an accident with him forward facing he may never be able to scream again!!!!!
Keep spreading the word because you have been there and understand first hand!
Thanks So much !!!!!!!!!!!
I thought I was invincible. Of course I denied it then, but it was true. What I did not include because it was beside the point is that I was a meth addict at the time as well (didn't contribute to the crash) and that accident made me quit because I realized how much I did value my life considering I came very close to losing it.
I'm glad you got out of it what I intended. :)
I'm at work now. I'm gonna check it out later. Maybe post this in other due date groups to educate the people wo honestly don't really understand the benefits of ERF and carseat safety.
Quoting 6under1roof:I have a question.
How do you rear face a child that's too tall for a rear facing seat? How does that make it safer? If his legs are bent up into his face?
THe only way a child is too big for their rear-facing seat is if they've outgrown it in height (have less than an inch of the shell of the seat above their head) or weight. The seat's limits, that is - no leg length is too long. Having your legs on the back of the seat is fine. Children are more flexible than adults naturally and can easily cross their legs, stretch them out, put them over the sides of the seat, etc. Most adults, when they have the option, prop their feet up on seats, the dashboard, ottomans, etc.
Here are some older rear-facing kids:

See? Not a problem at all.
Also, consider this... although there have been NO documented cases of a child's legs being broken because they were against the seat, there have been hundreds of thousands of cases of internal decapitation - where the spinal cord is severed internally though the head still hangs on by skin - from children forward facing before their bodies are ready. If you had to choose a broken leg or a broken neck? I'd choose two broken legs. Cast or casket?
