Hello everyone! I am about 6 weeks pregnant and every doctor I come in contact with, has told me to get both flu shots... I was already set against doing, it because I didn't want to put that stuff into my body, knowing it has been tested (H1N1) enough, they just started testing on pregnant woman in September, and they aren't even testing in the first trimester... has anyone gotten the shot while pregnant? My cousins doctor wouldn't give it to her until she was 12 weeks and I am curious as to why that is. I haven't even met with my OB yet because I just found out I was pregnant, going in for lab work tomorrow... I am so torn, I don't know what to do! I heard that it can cause miscarraige, and then I hear on the flip side, that its the same as the flu shot, just with a different strain of virus in it... any thoughts? Thanks!!!

I got my h1n1 flu shot when I was 29 weeks along.  It IS made exactly the same as the seasonal flu shot, which I always get....and when I didn't guess what, I got the flu BAD that year.  The only difference is as you said, the strain.  All I would do is request the thimerosal free version, which is a single dose/pre-loaded syringe.  The multi-dose bottles you see on the News contain thimerosal.

I have heard nothing about the shot causing miscarriages, I think the biggest danger is how the swine flu is hitting pregnant women so hard, including one women on the pregnancy board who died after being in a coma and delivering premature twin boys.  It's scary stuff, and I for one feel SO much better knowing that me and my baby is safe.
