Sinus congestion can be the most miserable part of a sinus infection. To drain your sinuses, try one of the remedies below:
One of my favorite remedies is to make an herbal steam. To do this, simply boil 2 cups of water and add 1/2 oz. of herbs. Remove from heat and allow to steep 20 minutes, covered.
Some herbs I recommend are:
When your herbs are finished steeping, place a towel over your head and hold your face over the pan. Breathe the steam in deeply for 15-20 minutes until congestion is clear. Blow your nose often while you do this.
This remedy is also good for coughing, chest congestion (mullein works great to heal the lungs!) and nasal congestion.
Heat these ingredients and drink hot!:
- Eat raw garlic - you can mince the garlic and eat it on bread if you have a hard time eating it plain.
- Here's a recipe from Earth Clinic:
1 cup tomato juice
1 tsp chopped fresh garlic
1/2 tsp of hot sauce
1 tsp lemon juice
a pinch or two of celery salt for flavor
Note: Be sure to use these remedies more than once, say 3-4 times a day until completely free of congestion.
There are healthy options to having clear sinuses without taking over-the-counter medicines that have harmful side effects! What are your favorite natural home remedies for sinus congestion?
