I will keep you ladies posted on my experience as an AirForce wive, hotel stay, surrounding areas, and things to do in the area. Hopefully this can help any of you who's hubbies are getting ready for BMT in San Antonio, TX and are new Air Force wives/girlfriends like me.

I am having trouble finding out if hotels are really close to the base. I want to be within walking distace because I can't afford a car rental and I am not sure if my father in law will rent a car. It is hard though because mapquest and google maps does not recognize any addresses within the base. I can do it by zipcode, but can't really tell exactly how far it is. Were you able to figure this out yet?

there are on base hotels, however I have seen ratings that aren't great about them. Yes I will be staying at the best western atrea hotel it's about 1 mile from Lackland literally down the street.

The following are within a 7 mile radius of the base:

La Quinta Lackland (literally next door to Lackland)

La Quinta South Park

Best Western Atrea

Holiday Inn Lackland

Quality Inn

Sleep In

this is a airline, hotel, car accommodations travel agency and profits got to lackland air force service funds.

*note, from my personal experience I found that using the above travel agency is much more expensive than shopping around online for good hotel, flight, and car deals. I give it to you as an option but don't exactly recommend it due to costs.

do you know his expected graduation date?

I know the base hotels are never the best, but if it's not for an extended period of time, it is worth it. They are usually comparable in cost and you are on base so everything is fairly close. I recommend it. The River Walk is also nice to visit and walk down. When I went there to visit DH when he was there, I enjoyed just walking and taking in the sights.

Thank you! I don't even want to try the on base hotel because the site says that it is hard to get a room and then even if you do, you may be bumped if someone in the air force needs it. It is just easier to get one near the base and not have to worry about that.
