Heard this on talk radio 101.5 this morning and thought it was a good topic.  A Lot of ppl were against it. What do you think of this? Do you think this is appropriate or inappropriate?

Hhhhhmmm, that is a good one. I always thought raising the flag at half-mast, was for police, fire fighters and fallen soldiers. She doesn't fit into any of those categories and I can see where those that might fit in that category would be offended.

I won't say it is right or wrong but I think it is odd.

I personally think this is a bad thing to do. This is usually reserved for service members, fire fighters, police, EMS. He did, however, do the same for the guy that played with the E-Street band. Which was also incorrect.

Idk how i feel about this..I mean she was a NJ girl so I see why he is honoring her I guess..BUT i really feel this is something that is done to honor heros.. I dont view celebs as heros unless they do something to really earn that title like extreme charity work etc.. I also have a veeyr hard time honoring people who are drug addicts and pretty much kill themselves by excessive drug use.. I know that might not be the popular thing to say but just how I feel .

I agree. But this is what I found

Flying a flag at half-staff or half-mast is a sign for grief and mourning. It is flown following the death of certain government officials, in times of national distress, on various holidays, and at any other time it is instructed by the president or government. There are specific instructions in the Flag Code for lowering the flag and the time frame it should be flown.

Why flag the flags half mast she isn't a solider, firefighter, presdinet or a cop??? She isn't no one important so the flags should not fly half mast for her.

I really agree with you.  It's sad that she died; she brought joy to a lot of people through her music; but she did not go to extradordinary measures to improve the lives of the less fortunate and often times set a horrible example of celebrity status through her drug use and very public battles with ex-h bobby Brown. I don't even think congressman and state reps deserve the honor, unless they served their country in a time of war.  Fly the flag at half mast for our servicemen, police, fire and ems personnel who put their lives on the line every single day.

Well actually she did help the less fortunate. I don't know if you are aware of the Whitney E. Houston Academy in West Orange.  That still doesn't mean she fits the reason to fly the flag half mast. IMO

Seriously? Um, no, I don't think they should do this for her. 1/2 mast should be reserved for government officials and military personel IMO.
