| Design for New York's new "Empire Gold" license plate, available for motorists beginning in April 2010. CBS |
Bumpers across the tri-state are about to become a bit more colorful as the state's Department of Motor Vehicles unveiled its newest license plate design Tuesday. It seems as if many New Yorkers, however, aren't too pleased with the bold new design.
More than 80 percent of those who have taken part in a poll on WCBSTV.com as to whether they liked the new plate or not voted that they found it to be quite unappealing.
The "Empire Gold" design features a mostly golden-tinted plate with a navy bordering and lettering, along with a small, navy state silhouette in the center. The thicker blue border atop the plate features the words "New York" in gold lettering, while the bottom portion reads "Empire State" in navy lettering.

Motorists will be able to switch to the design when it's released in April 2010.
A plate fee of $25.00 will be added to the registration renewal fee. Single plate registrations for vehicles such as motorcycles will be charged a plate fee of $12.50. If you want to keep your old tag numbers, you'll have to fork out an additional $20 as well.
i totally hate these plates and it will cost more to get them but your not saving if you keep the old ones.the gov must sit their and lookfor way to keep money in their pocket.why cant they leave well enough alone?
I think it's a waste and I know they were trying to do away with it, I hope so.

Ugly. I wish they would go back to the Statue of Liberty plate.

Loving Mom 2.. Amiah & Ziem
I love the orange plates. But, the lady at the DMV said that they are only on the starting letter of E and the go through to Z. What are they going to do with all the ones that are just sitting there?
I am going to be the odd ball out here and go against everything that I usually say but I don't mind that much if we have to get new plates. Yes it is to close some of the gap and if they don't do this then they will find some other way to do it. Also our registration is one of the cheaper states. Not that I want to pay more I just guess that I know if it's not this it's going to be something else.
But they said the other say that they ditched this idea so we don't have to worry about it for now. They might bring the thought back some time else.

this will make people every where very angry. even the people whom DOES want to buy a car soon (like myself in a few more year's)
i think our governor isn't making the right choice's for us... (shakes head) >.<
hopefully soon we'll get a better governor.
