Consumer Product Safety Commission to announce huge recall of cribs with drop-down sides
The Consumer Product Safety Commission will announce one of the largest crib recalls in history on Tuesday. The recall affects cribs that have drop-down sides.
The commission fears that cribs with drop-down sides are unsafe and could even be deadly. And it might be right.
For example, ten-month-old Tyler Jonathan died in his crib with drop-down sides, CBS News reports. The baby got his head stuck between the side rail and the headboard of the crib and was strangled.
"That's every parent's safe haven for their child, and to see the horrific sight of him strangled ... was just horrifying to me," Michele Witte, the boy's mother, told Susan Koeppen, a consumer correspondent for CBS News.
In the past two years, nearly 5 million cribs have been recalled.
Storkcraft cribs are being recalled. That's what I have for my daughter only it's already been turned into the daybed feature.
I know my daughter texted me about this morning afraid that the one we were buying for my future grandbaby (due in Jan) was being recalled.
BTW Suffolk has just become the first county to ban sale of drop side cribs.
