cut out 3 star shapes out of card stock paper or is that too much work?

I am doing the craft as DS's spring party... a cute necklace 3 stars with a shiny penny glued on... red white and blue... cute.

But I dont know if I should cut 2 of the 3 stars out?
Sam cant cut all 3 without being a crying mess on the floor... LOL... so.. I wasnt sure what a typical 5/6 year old can do.

I also am making these...  but the white ones will just be frosting... and I am using strawberries instead of raspberries... (I'll being extra fruit jic!)

That sounds adorable!!! Alice has a hard time cutting out shapes. How much time do you have to make the craft? I'd talk it over with the teacher to see what you should do.

I think I would cut a bunch of them out myself and then set a time limit of say 10 min for the kids to cut out their stars. Let them know at the beginning that they only have a little bit of time and that if they don't have enough time to finish all their stars that its ok because you have some ready just in case. That way the kids don't get stressed out if they can't do all three stars and keeps things moving along for those with short attention spans. Also offer assistance to those who are having a lot of trouble so they will have at least one that they did "themselves"

I think it is a little presidents day more then memorial day... but, It's cute and easy...and festive. I  bought white yarn as well.. not blue.

Can you cut out several of each color? Then the kids can try, and if they aren't able to, they can take an already cut one. Otherwise, to just glue and string won't take them more than a minute.

I can tell you that most 7 yr olds can't tie (no sew pillow incident of 2009).

Cutting stars is tricky! My son can do it but he would get bored and sloppy after one or two.

I can def. do that with the blue stars... but I bought just enough card stock red paper to make 20 ---that I dont have extra.... in case someone messes up... that way I can hole punch the red in advance as well.

So, I think I will cut out red... cut out a few blue for those that dont finish in the allotted time and let the kids cut out white on their own (with a few extra white for those that mess up). Cutting out 1 should be manageable for most, right? ... there are 4 mom's to help as well... and only 17 kids in DS's class.

Love the craft idea but to be honest I have no info regarding what they can or can't cut. It's been so long for me. I also love the cupcakes and I too would use strawberries.

The cupcakes and craft idea are both very cute. But I do think 3 stars each may be too much for that age group. Maybe have the others ready and just have them do the 1 because otherwise you're asking for a lot of meltdowns. You're very festive scarlett!
