Yeah you need to talk to your mate. Tell him what you want. Or they have great stores that sell battery operated mates if you don't have a real one.

I would most definitely be talking to your S/O about this. If he don't know he's not getting the job done well, I kind of blame you. He probably thinks he's a stallion when in fact he is a pony. Ya gotta let him know!
