When we bought this house, there was carpet all through the upstairs, the stairway, and in the living room. It was awful because it was dirty and full of dog hair. We had the carpets pulled up and there was an old wooden floor that was still able to be finished rather nicely. We only lightly stained it because we figured with kids...they would just ruin a darker floor.
Anyway, the banister for the stair way is white: the handrail and the spokes (?). I want to strip the banister paint and give it a wood look again.
I'm nervous because I've never done anything like this before and am afraid I'll ruin it.
FYI they are called balusters.
It sounds like a super fun awesome project!!!!!
I will say working with stripper is s-m-e-l-l-y! but if you leave a dirty diaper around, Im sure it would overpower stripper smell. After stripped, you'll need to sand lightly first with thicker sandpaper (80-120) to get out any imperfections/ marks/ then a softer (220-240 grit) to smooth the surface before stain.
Then you can restain to match your floor... or another color...
