I was ironing some clothes we needed last minute and as we were rushing out the door I forgot to unplug it....it has auto shut off, but I never leave it plugged in. I had set the iron down on a little stand. When we got home almost 2 hours later, the stand was tipped over and the iron was laying flat on the rug. Huge burn mark. THANK GOD our house didn't burn down! I don't know if the cat did it or if the weight of the iron tipped the stand over? Either way, our carpet is ruined and I won't be doing that again.

OMG, that is so something I would do, but I use a towel on my dining room table
