Ok, last year (really in late June) I was talking to a teacher while waiting to see the school's caseworker.
& we were talking about sleep & breakfast for kids.
The guy mentioned that as of next school year "school year 2014", all kids will get a extra hour of school (porter is K-6) yes including kids in K classes.
So yesterday I got my mail & saw the bus schedule (yayy!) than I noticed the time (wtf?!)
School bus pick up: 8:18am
School bus drop off: 4:27pm

*gulp*
I think some kids are not going to like this.
Idk of its affecting anyone out side of Syracuse, oh say IE: Liverpool, B' ville, Oswego, auburn?
Anyone else? Or us crappy Syracuse?

Thanks for any info.

Nothing is changing for us in Jamesville-DeWitt.  I agree that's probably too long of a school day, particularly for the young ones.  When it comes to education outcomes, more is not always (almost never) better.

Honestly your times don't sound that different.
Mine get on the bus at 8:20 (I don't have this year) and are home by 4.
What are the actual school hours? I know mine are 8:50 to 3:20

That sounds like my sons school. The school hours are 9:15-3:30. He is on the bus at 8:48 and will get home by 4.

Sams school is 9-3:05.
IF he took the bus, it would pick him up at 8:20 and drop him at 3:40.. But i drive- so he gets there at 9:00... And i get him at 3:05. ;)

yup sounds about right. One thing to remember about times given by the schools....They are not the drivers and can or give "about times" Our rule for here is to be out at least 15 minutes the first week.  You have to give the drivers time to learn the route and deal with the parents and pictures, along with kids not wanting to get on the bus.

I agree that is a really long day for the younger kids. Ours is 9:05-3:20. They get on about 8:45 and get home about 3:40

I remember there was some talk of extending the school day, as an experiment here, in NYC, for schools at some neighborhoods.  I also don't believe that more time at school equals to more learning, but it also might depend on the kind of family a kid comes from.  If he/she comes home to an empty house, and will spend the afternoon watching tv or playing video games, maybe a longer school day is not such a bad idea.
