I added up just the produce portion of my food bill today after i went shopping. Just the produce was $77.62!!
And ill need to restock certain things by wed or thurs. Like apples, pears, Berries, not to mention veggies like broccoli.
Giuliana only likes red grapes, G only likes green grapes, G eats 2 carrots a day, and only likes red peppers,
Anthony insists on a salad with dinner every night.
I can't wait for summer when produce is more in season and a little cheaper!
Eating healthy is EXPENSIVE! !
We also eat fish twice a week, so that's not cheap, and while we used to eat pasta At least 3x a week, because Anthony and G are carboholics, we now only have it 1x a week.
I will say though, Anthony has lost over 30 lbs, and i lost 13 lbs.
So may be worth it, but still!

That's true, junk food is cheap food, but in the long run you are saving money on doctor's bills, etc.  The health benefits of eating good foods are undeniable, but the good feeling when you look at yourself in the mirror, or when you go on the scale... priceless.

Agreed, it's crazy how expensive produce is.

I can't wait for the Farmer's Market to open up around here.

For two years running, my New Year's resolution was to stop wasting food. With the pressure of rising prices, I'm more resolved. :-) Instead of putting leftover leftovers in the garbage, now I use freezer bags, (labeled and dated), to put them in the freezer. I'm also trying to cook for two, not 4, and buy nutritious fruits and vegetables instead of 'designer' cleaning products. Vinegar is a budget friendly and can multitask! :-)

If you are in an area you can, you could always grow a garden this summer :)

I'm a long-time farmer. Another way of getting produce cheaper is going to a local market and asking for seconds/damaged fruit and veggies. I know at our farm stand we would sell veggies and fruits at a lower cost if someone asked for the ones that maybe had a dent, or a bruise, or a scratch. One's that don't sell so well at regular cost. Or buy in bulk. Some people would buy strawberries or tomatoes in bulk to get a wholesale price. It's worth a shot.

We do grow vegetables in the summer so that helps.
None of m kids would eat anything with a bruise or marking on it. A lot of the produce stands here have them marked down, but my kids are picky about that.

Could you cut them up and cut that spot on so they didn't see it? That's normally what I do if they don't want to eat an apple or something that has a bruise. Cut it out and slice the apple up and then give it to them sliced with peanut butter or something. It wouldn't hurt to just tell them this is what your getting, nothing wrong with it, just got dropped. We cut it out the rest is fine. Just saying, produce won't always look perfect ;)
