I've only been through one deployment and I moved back in with the in-laws and then stayed there for 6 months and moved back up on post in April. I think it was a lot harder to cope all by myself, but easier at the same time. Next deployment, I have decided to stay put.

I go back to Houston. I literally know no one here that I like (who would not also be deployed lol) so it would be pointless to stay.

First deployment and I decided to stay put. It'd be nice to go stay with family but after a couple of months you want and need your own space.

We stay put, I visit my family at least once a month for a weekend though because they are only 3.5 hours away. Im a big girl, I can handle being alone.

We stay put. I don't wanna go pull my 7 yr old out of school. He gets wonderful help here at the school he attends so I think its smarter for me to stay put.

When hubby deployed, we stayed in FL. Duty station is TX but he had just graduated BCT and we decided to stay until he came back. Just moved to TX in June, he came back from deployment this May. I was close to my dad but hardly saw him while DH was deployed so I was doing everything on my own like always.

Understandable :) My kids aren't school-age yet, but I do see where you wouldn't want to move in the middle of the school year, I wouldn't either.

This was our first deployment.  My husband just returned to the Army after being out for 15 years!  While he was a civilian, he drove 18-wheelers over the road so I already know how to survive being alone.  But we'd only just moved here to Washington and moved on post two weeks before he was deployed.  We'd lived in an apartment near the post for 6 months previously.  So I had just gotten moved in and was getting settled when he announced he was going overseas.  Then we got housing.  So I chose to stay since I had a job.  Three months after he left, his mother passed away suddenly.  We had to travel all the way back to Houston, TX.  I got back and found they'd fired me because they couldn't wait for me to return.  So for the past 5 months, I've been cooped up in my little house and dreading the next day.  I have no friends here my age.  I'm nearly 40.  Two more weeks.  Thankfully, I got a call yesterday and AAFES wants to hire me.  But I've hated every minute of this deployment.  I wish that I'd just stayed in TX.  But my husband's command insisted that we move up here.  I dunno.  There's another guy who used to be in his unit, and his family stayed in their home.  But I guess I can live anywhere as long as I know he's ok.  Just wish that there were more moms my age with kids that are the same as mine without being higher rank.  It sucks being the wife of an enlisted man who's old enough to be the dad to most of his buddies.  He's dad to a soldier who's stationed in Italy.  It's hard having two soldiers anyway, but both of them are overseas!
