When the soliders are deployed, how does the whole communication thing work!?
My guy told me that they do have a room on the airbase that has phones/internet-but that's for the whole base-and he said internet will cost him $120.
Can someone fill me in please?
Thanks Ladies!
MWR has rooms set up where they can go use the phone and the internet, but they have to wait in line and there is a time limit. They also have to buy min to use the phone. My husband had internet in his room and it cost him 60 a month for it, but he split the cost with his roommate. If he does get internet in his room then you can chat, webcam or he can call using sites like Skype. It really depends on where he is, cause some places are better than others.
My husband is deployed and he also has internet in his room, and uses his laptop. We both have webcams and use Skype, its free, and he can even call my phone from Skype, and that is how we talk on the phone when we need to. That service was like $10 for so many minutes.
I'm not exactly sure what it cost for my dh to get internet in their room, but yeah that's what he did he never raelly called me because the connection always sucked and I was busy running around after a 2 year old so it was much easier to talk on messanger and use webcams when the interent wasnt to slow.
My husband has internet in his room for $65 a month.
He has the option of getting a phone in his room, but we decided to just use skype instead of a phone since it's free and we can see eachother.
They do have a room to use the internet if they do not purchase it in their room
you ladies are lucky my husband is in afganastand and doesnt even have his own room he shares a room with 100 guy with no Internet .He does get on the computer once in awhile but he waits in line and they cut him off after 20 min.We do get to talk on the phone almost every day .
Completely depends on the area where he is going as to how communication is set up. My DH just got internet in his living area and it cost between $50-60 a month for unlimited access but sometimes the connection is slow if a lot of guys are on at once. The first 6 months of his deployment he had to go to the MWR which cost by the hour and it was more expensive. He used calling cards to call me but just recently got a cell phone that he can buy minutes for. We mostly communicate via instant message because it's cheaper. His first deployment he had internet pretty much the whole time in his room for $60 a month and would call me on the occasion. I talk to him almost every day now online, usually twice a day before he goes to sleep then after PT before he goes to work depending on both of our schedules. His first deployment was to Iraq and this time he's in Afghanistan.
