So I had a c section in dec. My dr was GREAT always liked her still do!! But the "assistant" is another story .. It was after hours so she called in someone from outside the office.. he knew my ins. from the beginning still came in .. well i got a bill for 500 .. he never billed the ins i called MANY times he finally billed them told me it was fine .. a month later i got a notice from collections .. he sent in the bill .. i called ins they wont cover it cause hes a "glorified nurse" is what she said well i was mad cause he never called me he just sent it straight to collections!! well i call my dr she said she would talk to him and things well he was supposed to pull it outta collections he didn't he made me pay half or it would go to the credit bureau the next day so i paid half (it would have been reported on mine and dh so that could mess with promotions).. was upset how he handled it but half is better than the whole .. went to my dr and mentioned how i didn't like the way this was all handled because had he told me ins wasn't covering it i would have paid don know why he sent it to collections .. well turns out my dr office PAID HIM 2 days before i did!!!!! oh i was so mad.. well they have been working on it and i had been calling him leaving messages he never replies to .. and today i got the mail with HALF of our money refunded .. GREAT well it also came with this letter:

Frankly this office is appalled by your complaint. You are receiving a "refund" at the expense of your health care provider. In the future seek your care @ a military institution.

Oh i am so pissed .. we pay extra so we don't have to go to the military hospital and I LOVE MY DR .. this guy is on his own and not a part of the office at all but goes in on after hour surgeries ... I AM SO PISSED though ..do any of you know where I can report him .. I mean he was paid 2 and was going to keep the money until i told my dr ... SO MAD!!!!

Well first off if you didn't get all the money you paid back, I would be talking to the head of admissions or whatever billing specialists I could speak with. You should have some sort of financial person at your base you can speak with.. or a lawyer... something... then I would SUE!! Somewhere down the line, that's got to be some sort of discriminatoin suit. I wouldn't see how they can tell you where to go just because you complained because he cheated you and the ins company out of money. They could pull his license for that! And secondly, if he is the after hours person but only a 'nurse' I don't see why he is doing the billing anyways! In Tennessee, if you are anything lower than a MD you have to have a MD doing all the paperwork and signing off on it. So you may have some sort of malpractice suit.

he has his own practice and this all happened off post at my dr office we have tricare standard so we pay so i can see a civilian .. i LOVE her but this assistant she called in is something else.. My dr office paid him not ins because ins wasn't going to pay him and my dr didn't feel it was my fault so they wanted to take care of the bill because they called him in which is great except he still made me pay!!

I would write them a letter back explaining its theft, which is illegal, to take money for a bill that has been paid. I would then explain how you will be word of mouth and viz internet sharing your experience with him to others.

Idk if you can for drs and what not, but better business burro? idk.. I wish I did though, I know a dr I'd like to throw under the bus too for similar shit..

What kind of assistant is he? A nurse practitioner?

Other than reporting it to the medical board, I'm not sure what else you can do.

How does he have his own practice?? That really is just a glorified nurse! You can report him to the state and I *think* the BBB.
