Newly weds as of 4/14/11, my husband went over seas in June( was at moody). So I stayed in Oregon. We have orders to go to Missouri! Very different from Oregon. But I am very concerned about tonados. I've never been in one. I'm also having a hard time looking for housing. We both agree we would like to live off base. Anyone living in this area or did and can shed some light? I am greatful just to be with him! I will be moving there any time may-August of this year!

I grew up in Missouri and am currently here visiting family and I have never been in a tornado.  I grew up about 45 mins or so from Whiteman.  I don't know much about the area but can try to help you out while I am here(if you want) but I will be leaving in April/May to move to VA, that is hubbys next duty station.

That would be amazing! I've looked on Craigslist, all over online and haven't found anything. It looks like the housing market is like here in Oregon. The houses to rent are 850+ and you have to pay all utilities. We also have a kitty and a dog ( both under 20 pounds) but to buy a house (which I have no idea where to start but online they look pretty) for 85k only. I am very confused, we haven't bought a house and what if we aren't stationed there long renting, then renting it out.... Etc

Knob Noster...  hahaha....

I laugh cause we had orders there, but were cancelled.  Then we ended up here...  pfft...

Can't tell you much as I only just started to research before they were cancelled...  But...  It's a really small town.  Really small... And Knob Noster is funny to say...

I'm not much help...

Try AHRN.com  for housing rentals...

We are in MO right now. About 30 minutes from whiteman. We are getting 4-10 ft of snow Monday!!! My only advice is prepare for snow boots one day and shorts the next lol. It was 65, 3 days ago and it is 15 today!!!!
On the good side, there is a lot to do. The lake is just a few minutes away and there is semi good shopping in warensburg (right next to Whiteman) the city is only 45 ish minutes, and there is stuff for kiddos.
The base is TINY!!!!! The Commissary is closed 3 days out of the week and all holidays (small and large) it is closed. We weren't used to that and made many trips while it was closed. Security is super high (air force base with a B2Bomber.) And its sometimes a pain in the rear to get on base!!

We have lived here for 15 years. Blah. Moved to California for 3 years.

Homes are hard to rent. It is expensive, and its just because its small towns and the people renting them want all the money they can't get. Most the time they don't budge either. Base housing will probably be hard to get but worth a try. Base housing would be way cheaper than renting.
