Typhoid? Really?!

DH got a typhoid vaccination today.  Anyone else's SO gotten this before??  I'm confused, I don't see the purpose at all.  He went to BAS for the annual bloodwork to test for HIV and whatever else, and he had asked for another referral to the urologist.  They wouldn't give him the referral, and then gave him a typhoid shot.  He doesn't have a deployment coming up, he's actually EASing this year.

I know they give military a bunch of vaccines, but I have no idea what they give...Im only aware that he gets them because there is one they can't get until they are away from small children or pregnant women. I can't remember which on that is though.

Yes, they give the typhoid vax. I am pretty sure he has had it before and this one was probably more a booster. Even if he is getting out, they have to keep him up to date on everything until he is completely out.

Yeah, that's smallpox.  DH got that before his 1st deployment, I understood that one.  Typhoid though was just kind of a shock to hear I guess.  No one ever talks about it, and I don't remember DH mentioning a shot for it in the 6 years we've been together. *shrug* Who knows though, like he said he's probably not even aware of all the stuff they've injected into him.

Same here, just most of the ones he's told me about made *some* kind of sense.  Typhoid just doesn't.  He doesn't come close to being in any of the "at risk" groups set by the CDC, he's not going to any time soon, and he's not deploying or even going to the field any time soon.  I just found it odd.

I get typhoid every three years or whatever, because I travel for business to weird places.  The thing is, I keep it current even though I haven't been to a risky area in two years - because you never know.  That's probably why they gave it to him - just because he isn't schedule to go anywhere doesn't mean he won't.
