So dd and I took our monthly dreaded trip to walmart to pick up the select few items that the commissary/px doesnt carry. Dd always asked for a sticker from the greeter while I get a cart. She forgot to say please, so I reminded her to say it before she git a sticker. And when she did, she said thank you, but whispered it. I asked her to say it louder because its nice. Well this lady behind me (as if I was blocking the entire Walmart entrance) huffed at me asking do I really make my kid say please and thank you at that age? Dd is 2.5 and is well old enough to start instilling proper manners. She knows its polite and makes people smile. She is a natural born entertainer.
Anyway, I turned around and said "yes, I do. Being polite is lost in this country. Especially in youth. I intend to not let my kids be spoiled little brats. They will not take things for granted."
She said "well you're mean for not letting a kid be a kid."
So apprently its mean and border line child abuse to teach your kids manners these days.

You're just practicing for when she's older, and you can REALLY be mean.  I have a teenager, I hear "You're mean" at least once a week, lol.

Maddie usually does to, sometimes she just needs a little prompting. Lol

Both my boys say "please", "thank you" etc, etc. They were both taught at a young age. We get many complaments because of that.

I make mine say Please and thank you! My husbands youngest sister was 5 when I met him and none of his sisters (3 of them) ever used please or thank you and was very rude to each other. After about 2 weekends at his place those girls knew better than to not say Please or Thank you! I find it very rude. When I went to college I went to eat with a gal and I said Please and Thank you to the waitress and my friend (who we had just met) said wow you are so polite!

I'll be that mom wonders why her teens or soon to be teens talk to her disrepectfully, LOL.

It's NEVER to early to teach manners.
