Last Wednesday I was informed that I needed to enroll my son in the EFMP because the kind of doctor he needs is not common, so we need to be in areas that have a fairly big city around or near the Base. They send me to the TriCare office next door to start the process, and that's when I find out that they're only a satellite office and they don't do EFMP enrollments there; they don't even carry the right paperwork to start the process. After a few more phone calls, I finally get the right paperwork yesterday. Today I dropped it off for the doctor to fill out and was told it will take 2 weeks to get it back. Then I called the EFMP office to find out how long the process takes, and I'm told it's another 2-4 weeks after they get the paperwork back from the doctor.
We're supposed to get orders in 3 weeks. EFMP enrollment is a 4-6 week process... even *I* can do that math. So what happens if we get orders to a place that doesn't fit the EFMP profile? Are we just screwed?? More importantly, when I first met with this doctor back on December 14th, why the hell didn't she tell me to start the enrollment process back then -when she knew we were scheduled to PCS this summer?!?!
Grrrrr.....sometimes I really hate dealing with military medicine.
they will either ammend the oringial orders or your DH who go and it would be a dependent resticted tour. We are facing the same thing next time we get order though all three of our kids are already enrolled in EFMP. Pur younger 2 need to be need a peditric hosptial and so as a family we can't anywhere overseas, except Hawaii and they are about half a dozenish bases that we can't go to state side.
He's AF, so I'm not sure how it works -this EFMP thing is all new to me.
About all we know about his next assignment is that he has to go to a Joint job, and since we're already in the DC area I'm just crossing my fingers and really, Really, REALLY hoping he gets a job at one of the local Joint agencies, and then we won't have to move. That would make the EFMP thing a non-issue.
Quoting SierraLynn:
I would assume, even if you get your orgonal orders, that once the EFMP paperowk goes through that the orders would be amended to adhear to the guidlines for your ds doctor's. If not, your dh can get a hold of branch to see what they can do, assuming he is Army...
you're in DC?.....you could have went straight to bethesda and did your enrollment there....
and why do they not have the doctors you need? DC should have every doctor available to you....

I wish the TriCare lady in Woodbridge told me about going to Bethesda. =(
And we have the kind of doctor we need now, but if we PCS in June and if we get stationed someplace where services are somewhat limited, we might be SOL.

you're in the hood..i get it..haha and yes you could have gone to Bethesda for enrollment...its kind of far from woodbridge but its better than waiting...(maybe an hour and a half drive)....i can understand why woodbridge wouldnt have the doctors you need but DC definitely does! its a bit of a drive from where you are but it still has all the doctors/specialists available :-) either that or you could go to bethesda....they have all the doctors there too :-)
