Good places for affordable family outings? By affordable, I mean I want to go do stuff AT LEAST twice per week and get us all out of the house. DH is deploying soon and I already told him I want to spend a lot of quality family time together before he leaves.
I could also use some ideas for a date night. Unfortunately, we will only be getting one of those before he deploys unless when his family comes out they let us go out two times the weekend they are here, which is possible but not likely. One night, definitely, two.. eh, idk.
I know for sure I want to go to the beach or a field or something and lay on a blanket and look at the stars. We haven't done that in a long time and it's something I'd like to do, even though it's small and simple. :)
Thanks in advance!
Oh yeah, and where's an outside car wash? Like the kind you need quarters for. TY!

There's really not much IN Jacksonville. There's a zoo somewhere but I've heard not-so-great things and we've never been. 30 acres and a mule sounds fun if your kids are elementary school age, but their hours are crazy. Chuck E. Cheese is decent, we usually spend about $20 for tokens and get a good hour and a half out of it with our 2 kids. Jump In Jax is good too if your kids are at least walking age.
Wilmington and Raleigh/Durham have a LOT more stuff. There's an aquarium just past Wilmington, they have Tregembo Animal Park, Monkey Joe's. Marbles's Kid Museum in Raleigh is amazing! There's lots of good stuff around New Bern too, we took a pretty awesome boat tour around the area and there's another aquarium around there too.
It's about 2 1/2 hours to Durham...about 2 to Raleigh.
Quoting thenguyenclan:how close are you guys to durham/raleigh?
We tried going to the zoo once, they were really rude. We have been to the aquarium before but I'll add that to my list because DD loved it.
DH said he'd love to do Chuck-e-Cheese. Lol. I'll have to look more into jump in jax, I've heard of it but not sure what it is. Lol. TY for the ideas.

Here's the Jump In Jax website: http://www.jump-in-jax.com/default.html
The basically just have a bunch of bounce houses for the kids. They can climb up and through most of them and slide down.
I forgot about this place in Wilmington too: http://www.wilmingtonnc.gov/community_services/recreation/fit_for_fun_center.aspx
It's only like $4 a kid, they have indoor and outdoor toys, an art room, and a snack room (they have Goldfish and juice and water).
Awesome, thank you!

Like averagemama said there isn't really much to do in Jacksonville itself. There is a lot to do in wilmington like she said and going out to Raleigh is also a good option. Myrtle Beach is also about 2.5 hours away and there's a lot to do there. We're actually headed down there this weekend and plan on going to the Ripley's Aquarium while we're down there. There is also an aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores by Atlantic beach.
You could do the walking tour of Nicholas Sparks in New Bern. The Walk to Remember tour. It is free starts at the convention center with a map there to show you where to go. Then after you are done do a carriage ride through downtown at night. Morgans is a really nice restuarant...others there in downtown too. Very romantic!!
That sounds fun.
So do you just go to the convention center to get started or do you need to make an appointment or something? And how long is it? I'm not sure how many hours they are going to be ok baby sitting. DH has to call his mom today and let her know when he's on leave and we'll talk to her about it then.
