Military Moves vs DITY?

Does anyone have experience with a DITY move? I think the call it PPM now or something. We've never done one, and I was wondering if it's worth the hassle. Are you paid enough to cover your costs?

If the $0.64 per pound is correct, by the time we rented the truck and they took taxes out, we'd barely have anything left. According to the paper my husband got, it's taxed at about 30%. It sounds like the taxes are taken out, and then the remainder is given to you. I wonder ifi can go and talk to transportation myself lol.

We're doing a partial right now and have recieved over 7k for it. The way we are working it though we won't spend NEARLY that much. Our trailer rental is 288.00. We're taking 28 days of leave and stopping in Cali which is only 3 hours away from where we are moving to in Arizona. We're staying with my ILs so we don't have to pay for lodging or food. Gas to Arizona and back while we house hunt but that's it. I'm guessing about 2k is what we will spend.

The movers will be here tomorrow morning, well, this morning since it's 242am. lol

Tax rate is 25%.  Sometimes 28% for those with state income taxes.

When dh goes to the transportation briefing and estimates the weight, they will give him an estimate of what they will pay. You might be able to goto transportation in person depending on how disgruntled they are.

it is taxed at 25-28% depending on your tax bracket-  they deduct the taxes from the profit- so if your reimbursement was 3200 and you have receipts for 2500, they will deduct 25% on the 700 profit.

you need receipts for taxes only and are not reimbursed for actual expenses.

the most important thing is to make sure you have adequate and legal weight tix.

We did a partial DITY (lol if you can call it that we moved almost 6,000 lbs) in December and made money off from the move. We had the military move almost 3,000lbs of stuff because we didn't need it right away. It is actually still in military storage now since they let us extend for 6 months. A DITY would be a pain if you didn't have a house to go to as soon as you get there. We drove straight from Ft Campbell to our apartment in Savannah so we needed our stuff. We will get the rest of our stuff next month once we close on our house.

When we did our move in December we were paid a certain amount for poundage but we were also reimbursed the full amount for our moving truck and the cost of fuel for it as well.

They are not worth the stress!  Plus, if you break something you can't get it replaced like you would with a military move.

Partial DITY is the way to go.  You can get paid just for the items you pack in your vehicle.

I did a DITY move, and we made about $1500, and it only took $250 to move, borrowed trucks and paid a kid $30 to help move, I was pregnant.
I will always do a DITY move!

no you are NEVER paid by wieght and by actual costs- you use recepits only to lower your taxes-

you are paid by wieght only unless you do not have weight tix and then you LOSE big time because you do not get the incentive money-
