My Husband has just joined the military, and I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what to look forward to or watch out for, as far as housing, healthcare, childcare, pay and what a post is like? i'm really eager to learn more from others moms/wives who are going through it now
It is more beneficial to get housing off post. This way, you get your BAH(Basic Allowance Housing). If you live on post, you won't get that. Let's say your BAH is 1300 a month, you find a place for 800 a month for rent. This would mean that BAH would cover your rent and all utilities and most times have some leftover :) Healthcare is pretty good. I'm not sure about pay or childcare. You could look up pay online though. Just google pay for whatever service he is in. I have just looked up some things about livin on post and stuff. I'm in the National Guard. Post is like a town, you have restaurants, shopping at the PX, barber shops, and post office, etc. Depending on which post he is assigned to, it may be bigger or smaller.
