Which do you prefer: off post housing or on post housing? Why or why not?

I've read armywife101's list of reasons, but I want to hear/read yours :)

Off post. Gets us away from it all. We always live far away too. Right now we are 18 miles from post and we love it!

It really depends on where you are.  Sometimes it's better, sometimes it's not.  Research where you're going and take it from there.

We are one of the bigger side I believe... Anywhere we go there's a military base. Army, navy, air force, marine... Hahaha

I'm sure you know this, but unless you're married you can't live on post.

Our last base was in San Antonio and we HATE San Antonio so we lived on base. Now in Germany we also live on base as we needed our children around English speaking children. I wish we lived off base.

1 mom liked this

We live off post. We are 32 miles from my husbands company. We enjoy it for the fact he can thow his bad mood out the window on the way home, gets him away from everyone, less drama, and I have my horses right out my back door. I have many friends on post and all i hear is "How do you stay away from the drama?"

I hated living on post, too much gossip, too much BS. I can get a better bigger house off base, not have to follow stupid housing rules, we also do not like living "with" people we work with.

I love living in the community - I love our neighborhood and our neighbors. I love being able to have my fire pit, parties when ever i want, what ever kind and however many pets I want.
