We are an army family PCSing to Oahu in Oct. Anyone currently there with advice or in the same boat with an upcoming move? We are not used to having to pcs and the past year has been a huge adjustment with my dh's career change! Any pointers about living on/off post r much appreciated!!

We've been here now for 4years and love it :)
There are a couple in the group that have just moved here or like you are gearing up for the move, they may have better info on how moves are going right now. I would reccommend getting your ducks in a row tho, as these few months will go fast.
As for on or off post, we lived on post, and i wish we didnt have to move off, but my dh went reserves so we dont qualify for on anymore.

I'm on Oahu. We are Navy. I like it. We were just starting out when I moved so I'm not sure about the household goods stuff. If you have pets I'm told you have to get their shots updated and there are limited places(hotels, lodges) that will allow pets. It's beautiful here, lots of things to try. It is expensive,so try to save some money. We live in navy housing, and they do take all of you BAH. I know most army live on Schofield, but some choose navy housing. The houses there are nice from what I've seen. The traffic here is bad in the morning and around 5 when people are going home. I do have Army friends though so if you have questions I can always ask them.

Thanks. Yes, I've been brought up to speed for my friend as to what to take care of ahead of time. Dogs already had his blood work and he will join us about. Month after we get on island. Husband is a pilot so we will most likely live near Schofield/Wheeler if we end up on post. Anyone aware of how CDCs are on post? If I go back to work, we will want our 3 yr old is the best possible environment,. I have a former co worker (dh is army) living on Navy base. Another friend in Marines lived off post. Any of you work outside the home?

I live on wheeler, I had my son at CDC on schofield and had a terrible experience , he was 22months and when I picked him up his diaper was clearly soaked through his pants, there suppose to check him every ht they failed to do so, and also were hesitant to tell me anything about his day so I have nothing good to say about Peterson but that's just my experience I've had. Much better luck on helenano CDC much cleaner and nicer and he's been there a handful of times and they welcome him in all know his name and tell me everything about his day I love then there :) helenano CDC is about 10/15minutes away depends how fast you drive I can get there in 10 :) HELEMANO but I beleive there could be a waiting list for the Cdcs if he would be a regular I use them for drop off care so I just scheduling appts by whatever availability since I used my bluestar benefits while Dh is deployed he works with aviation and works with pilots :)

We've been here for 3 years with one more to go, and love it!! We are Army also, but my hubby is at Fort Shafter. We live on Hickam AFB and LOVE it! Try and stay on Ford Island if you can when you get here the lodge has a pool and beautiful surroundings, and yes they have pet rooms. Oahu is fun and beautiful! Use ITT for discount tickets to do fun stuff, I check every month when the new list comes out so we can go do stuff that can be expensive. Also get your trolley tickets there so you can go to Waikiki and Diamond head and not have to drive so you can look around. Also get a state ID so you can get Kama'aina (local) discounts on stuff too!

Have fun!
